Best cigar lounges in Baltimore, a surprisingly deep scene

Bill··Baltimore, Maryland

Baltimore caught me off guard. I expected maybe half a dozen shops, but the metro has roughly 18 lounges, bars, and cigar-friendly spots running from Federal Hill up through Towson and into the county. Maryland's tobacco exemptions keep indoor smoking legal at dedicated shops, which helps explain why so many have stuck around.

The lay of the land

The scene spreads out more than you'd think. Federal Hill and the Inner Harbor area have a few walkable options if you're staying downtown. Towson and the northern suburbs have their own cluster. If you're driving, you'll have the full range open to you, but even without a car, there's something within reach.

BYOC policies vary by shop. Some Baltimore lounges are totally fine with outside sticks. Others charge a cutting fee, usually a few bucks. A handful flat-out require you to buy from their humidor. No universal rule. Check the individual listing before you show up with a travel case.

Drinks are solid across most of the city's lounges. The bigger spots tend to have full bar service with decent whiskey selections. Smaller shops lean BYOB, which works out fine if you grab a six-pack on the way. Details are in each listing.
