Charleston has a way of making everything feel a little more civilized. The old streets, the slow pace, the humidity that forces you to sit down and stay a while. It's a good city for cigars just by temperament.

The drinks are the differentiator
This is where Charleston separates itself from most cigar cities. The established lounges don't just serve alcohol. Some have genuinely impressive bar programs with craft cocktails, whiskey flights, and curated wine lists. Charleston takes its drinking seriously and the cigar bars reflect that.
The smaller tobacco shops outside the tourist zone lean BYOB, which is a fine way to go if you'd rather keep things simple.
Bringing your own cigars
Charleston is pretty relaxed about outside cigars. A few places are totally fine with it. Others charge a modest cutting fee. The higher-end spots downtown tend to prefer you buy from their selection, but they usually carry good inventory so that's rarely a hardship. Each listing page has the details.
Smoking laws
South Carolina has no statewide indoor smoking ban. Charleston doesn't prohibit smoking in private businesses either. You're good at any lounge listed here.
