Virginia built its economy on tobacco. Richmond was the center of it for over a century. That history doesn't just show up in museums. It shows up in how the local shops carry themselves. The inventory tends to be excellent. The staff knows their product. And the regulars have opinions about wrapper leaf that come from years of smoking, not YouTube videos.
About 9 lounges and shops serve the Richmond metro. For a mid-sized city, that's a solid number, and the quality across the board is higher than you'd guess from the outside.

Why Richmond's shops stand out
The tobacco heritage here translates into something practical: these shops are stocked well. Walk-in humidors tend to be deep, with good variety across price points. The staff at most places can actually steer you toward something you'll like, not just whatever has the highest margin. It's the kind of city where buying on-site is rarely a bad move. You might discover something you wouldn't have picked on your own.
BYOC, drinks, and logistics
Several lounges are fine with BYOC, sometimes with a small cutting fee. But given the inventory quality, it's worth browsing what they have. Listing pages have each spot's policy.
Richmond's craft beverage scene has gotten strong in the last few years. Most of the established lounges serve beer, wine, and spirits with actual thought behind the selection. A few smaller shops are BYOB, which works just as well.
Smoking indoors
Virginia's Clean Indoor Air Act exempts retail tobacco stores and tobacco-related businesses. All lounges listed here allow indoor smoking.
